Why? This is one badass soundtrack! If you're into electric guitars and crazy cool lyrics, this one is for you.

I couldn't force myself to write this review from just listening to the OSTs here at my laptop. I like the music, so I wasn't sure what the frick. Then I hooked my MP3 player up in my car and realized what it was: most of this music isn't meant for idle listening. You've got to be in a jamming mood and, for me, that means driving. The Trigun soundtracks are perfect driving music!

Tsuneo Imahori has found the perfect balance between sweet melodic songs and badass guitar riffs. Occasionally he'll throw some techno beats at you. You could say he's got Multiple Personality Disorder of the Composing Kind. You'll find that most of the tunes have a Western flavor. The track "Yellow Alert" even features a cow bell! Woo! "Never Could Have Been Worse" is my favorite. When I listen to it, I can see the tumbleweeds blowing down the dusty main street and prepare myself for some dastardly doings by some outlaw or another. Anyone up for a square dance?

Another thing you'll notice is most of the songs have no lyrics. This is a bit of a let-down to someone like me who loves to sing along but I'll let it slide in this case because the music is great how it is. "Sound Life" is a nice example of a song with lyrics on the First Donuts CD. It's more Japanese sounding with the high twanging guitar accompaniment and sweet-voiced singer. Very mellow. "Kaze wa Mirai ni Huku", the end theme song, starts out slow and swings into this upbeat tune with something like bongo drums banging in the background and a loudmouth singer belting out a song whose chorus goes something like "Na na na na na na na na na na na na." Mmmmmmm yeah. Don't need to be a rocket scientist to sing along with that one.

As far as frequent listening goes, I'd rather have one of the Inuyasha CDs on my stereo, but the Trigun soundtracks are definitely my new driving music.

I like mine glazed with a hot cup o' joe.
